While many in the industry are aware of the flashy unicorns getting the headlines (OSCAR, Lemonade, Ladders, PolicyGenius), just as many “under the radar” companies are having a broader impact on the industry through their accretive technology services. Companies that work on streamlining internal claims interface systems, fraud detection and handling virtual property underwriting show the power of technology outside the typical insurance regulated roles of selling, underwriting, claims handling and risk taking. However, despite not being regulated by DOIs, that doesn’t mean these companies are free of any regulation. This panel will discuss areas such as privacy, data security, potential compensation restrictions (not tied to denial of claims), and how better underlying technology will lead to more accurately priced business and better claims handling.
